Ronnie Atkins is arguably one of the busiest men in rock and metal at the moment, Atkins does literally not stop working and realistically who can blame him? After releasing the great ‘Make it Count’ album earlier this year, Atkins is back with a different twist with a new EP ‘Symphomaniac’.

Tongue in cheek title aside, ‘Symphomaniac’ shows Atkins adding a sense of epic and grandiose to four tracks from that previous ‘Make it Count’ album. Anyone who has been a fan of Avantasia for years will know that when it comes to singing with symphonic elements, Atkins is no stranger to this sound and this EP really does give a different dynamic to these tracks. This EP is layered in a sense of majesty and every track here just beautifully lends itself to being symphonised, particularly the likes of ‘Rising Tide’ and ‘Unsung Heroes’ which are not only great tracks, but with ‘Symphomaniac’ these tracks are given a real anthemic quality where any fan of Avantasia, Timo Tolkki’s Avalon and Helloween arguably finding this EP irresistible.

Atkins has delivered an absolutely infectious EP here, there is a real replayable quality to it and anyone who enjoyed ‘Make it Count’ will thoroughly enjoy these four tracks and if Atkins was to take the final bow now, this would be a curtain call in the most epic way possible.

"anyone who enjoyed ‘Make it Count’ will thoroughly enjoy these four tracks"
