DEFLESHED: loud, rude and filthy

How do get to know someone? You can stalk their socials but if you want to bypass small talk and get to know your favorite bands and artists beyond the surface level, this is the place to be. Sometimes the oddball questions allow you to learn the most interesting things about a person and see the varied, unique, and special qualities of a creative mind. Shall we?

Welcome to Metal Digest’s ABOUT. column

Please introduce the band in the most spontaneous way.

We are a three-man death/ thrash/ grind metal band from Sweden who likes it loud, rude and filthy.

What’s something an outsider wouldn’t know about your band?

Hmm, difficult question. That we are one of few bands that actually still rehearse in a physical rehearsal room maybe?

Or that our main inspirations are AC/DC, Exodus and Sodom?

Or that we occasionally enjoy a long sauna session ending with ice bathing?

What’s the career highlight you’re most proud of?

Maybe this comeback and the new album we did. It did not come without a lot of effort and grey hair, let me tell you that.

Lyrics that stuck with you?

Do you mean lyrics by myself or from another artist? If the latter I enjoy lyrics by the Swedish artist Joakim Thåström but those are in Swedish. However – Ghost did an excellent cover of him in English – check out the song Bible. That’s a good piece of lyric.

As for myself, I am struggling with remembering my lyrics, but the lyrics for “Night Vision” is pretty close at heart.

What’s the phone app you use most?

I think Podcaster or Spotify. I wear protective headphones at work but the surrounding is so loud so the music doesn’t really translate. So I rather listen to podcasts daytime.

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?

Going off to my cabin, to make barbeque and taking a sauna bath then jump into the lake. All accompanied with drinking beers and perhaps firing a spliff.

Are you more of a “play music to live” or a “live to play music” type of person?

Live to play music definitely since I don’t live off the music we’re making.

The demon inside doesn’t stop bothering me if I don’t do music.

How would your 10-year-old self react to what you do now?

He would probably attend school a lot more haha!

What career advice would you give to young musicians in the rock and metal industry?

Don’t know if I’m in a position to give advice.

But don’t overthink music. Good music finds its way out anyway and if it doesn’t, it’s not that good anyway.

If you could do it all over again, would you pursue the same career in music?

Never thought of it that way, but probably yes. I have no regrets and I don’t know how I would have done things better.

Thanks & cheers Gustaf
