Hard Rock/Heavy Metal

Without beating around the bush, as 1982 rolled around, Kiss were floundering as they struggled to fight against the turning tide of the late 70’s and early 80’s coupled with what has often been described as a career-suicidal concept album with ‘The Elder’. This didn’t deter Kiss and the band took a page from the book of early 80’s heavy metal and released ‘Creatures of the Night’. This year has Kiss celebrating 40 years of ‘Creatures of the Night’ with an ultimate Super Deluxe Edition of arguably Kiss’ best album.

We know that when it cash, cash, cash and extras to go with it, there aren’t many bands which can compete with Kiss and this Super Deluxe edition comes with a mega 103 tracks where 75 of which are unreleased spread across five discs. The first disc of ‘Creatures of the Night’ comes as the original album spruced up and remastered for the contemporary era. Spread across both disc two and three are a plethora of rarities, outtakes and demos, many of which have been locked in a vault and never released such as the fiery ‘Betrayed’. Furthermore, discs four and five will allow the fanatical Kiss Army to get their teeth into soundboard recordings from the ‘Creatures of the Night’ tour in ‘82/’83. Yes, this is Kiss at their most raw and it is warts n’ all but it will also include amusing sound effects from that tour such as the tank cannon from the start of the show, a firehouse siren as well as gargoyle noises. Moreover, there will also be a Blu-Ray disc released in 48kHz 24-bit Dolby Atmos/TrueHD 5.1 Surround with ‘Creatures of the Night’ released as a stereo 96kHz Hi-Res PCM Stereo. Audio jargon subtext. It sounds fucking good.

Yes, this Super Deluxe edition will set you back a considerable amount of three figures and if you’re a passing fan of Kiss, it may be an act of lunacy to purchase this, but if you’re a corporal in the Kiss Army then without this in your collection, you’ll be peeling potatoes as punishment for not purchasing this.

"Kiss Army assemble!"
