About Wornoc

How do get to know someone? You can stalk their socials but if you want to bypass small talk and get to know your favourite bands and artists beyond the surface level, this is the place to be. Sometimes the oddball questions allow you to learn the most interesting things about a person and see the varied, unique, and special qualities of a creative mind. Shall we?

Welcome to Metal Digest’s ABOUT. column

Please introduce the band in the most spontaneous way.

Hi, my name is Conor (aka wornoc), I am 100% Irish beef, I love tea, dogs and Guinness….

sometimes I play music when I’ve ran out of tea/Guinness and the dogs have gone for a snooze.

What’s something an outsider wouldn’t know about your band?

Mmmhmm…at one point I stopped play music for about 5 years because I was burnt out from my old band. We were together for about 10 years and we hardly liked one another by the end of it. Doing something for a long ass time takes its toll on you, especially when your heart isn’t in it anymore. When I finally got around to playing my guitar again, I started a band called Versive with my best mates, we are still active to this day.

What’s the career highlight you’re most proud of?

To be honest, releasing my album, I didn’t think it would have hit me so hard (in a good way) but since this is the first project I’ve had 100% creative control over, produced and mixed, it feels like a great accomplishment.

Getting to play a few shows with God Is An Astronaut was pretty kick ass too.

Lyrics that stuck with you?

One lyric that has always stood out is “my parents keep asking when you’re planning on coming around”. It’s from the song Her Words Destroyed My Planet by Motion City Soundtrack. I understand that it’s not a mind-blowing lyric, maybe that’s why I write instrumental music ha-ha. It makes me think of being a struggling creative in my early 20s with no idea of what I wanted to do with my life and my parents kept pushing me to get a normal job, so I moved to Canada for a year to get my head together, and it worked.

I didn’t expect to get so deep with that answer but sure look, here we are.

What’s the phone app you use most?

Grindr, it’s just nice to have look and see what’s on the market he he.

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?

Writing music alone in my studio, hanging with friends, long walks on the beach, ponder about the big question; are we alone in the universe? And of course mastering the art of shadow puppets.

Are you more of a “play music to live” or a “live to play music” type of person?

I have never ever thought of what kinda of person I am in regard to your question, now you got me thinking…..I feel like I would be the second one “live to play music”.

How would your 10-year-old self-react to what you do now?

When I was younger, there were certain venues around Dublin that I really wanted to play like the Voodoo Lounge and Eamonn Dorans (which is sadly gone now) and I thought if I played them venues, I would have reached my musical goals ( I got to play them both).

Now looking at the great bands I’ve gotten to share the stage with over the years along with the countries I’ve gotten to play in, I’d say my 10 year old would be shitting himself with joy haha.

What career advice would you give to young musicians in the rock and metal industry?

Fuck everyone else, do your thing, you’ll be happier.

If you could do it all over again, would you pursue the same career in music?

I am sure I would, I can’t imagine it being much different if I could go back in time and do it all over again. All my crap experiences has made me a wiser person, all my good experiences has led me onto something cooler things.
