An interesting problem to have is possessing a singing voice strikingly similar to Chris Cornell’s. On the one hand, you will be compared to one of the greatest rock singers of all time. You will be held in lofty company. On the other hand, how does such a person escape the inevitable comparisons and stand on one’s own two feet?

Lead singer of O.R.k, Lef attempts and succeeds at walking this tightrope by collaborating with former members of Porcupine Tree and King Crimson. With their newest album ‘Screamnasium’, when the band starts to resemble Audioslave or Soundgarden the prog elements and soul nuances gives the listener the insight that there’s more to be heard here.

A great example is ‘As I Leave’. While the chorus is the familiar Cornell rock anthem, during the verse Cornell would normally croon over the softer melody. However, Lef travels a more progressive route, which not only carves his own path but gives room for his bandmates to play more emotive musical passages.

With four albums in this is a bona fide exciting band to follow. As long as they keep producing quality like this album and carving their own path inside of a tight and energetic rock package, this writer will continue to follow.
