Nomadic Narwhal’s TOP 5

For more than just ocean lovers, Nomadic Narwhal takes a new path in sonic storytelling. With a cocktail of modern metal, underwater sound design, and cinematic drama; Nomadic takes you on a journey from the beaches to parts unknown. While keeping plenty of room open to interpretation, it is clear that this is not a guided tour. This is an oceanic odyssey shared between artist and listener.

TOP 5 pieces of equipment that every musician must own.

2). Any Harmony Instrument (keyboard, guitar)

3). A Computer

4). A Microphone

5). A Good Set of Headphones

This combination will provide you with enough tools to pursue, practice, perfect, and produce.

TOP 5 pieces of advice NOT to follow, to make it in the music industry.

1). “Fake it till ya make it”

2). “Fix it in post”

3). “Scoop the mids”

4). “Go with the trend”

5). “Just see what happens”

TOP 5 clicks on your playlist. What are you currently listening to, on repeat?

Sooooo…. it’s well known by my friends and family that I’m the weird one when it comes to this. I usually get obsessed with whatever I’m learning or researching and some things stick pretty hard. I’ll end up spinning a record over and over, and it’s usually something off the wall which means for road trips, I will never be in charge of picking music. With that being said, here is the current list.

1). Washed Out – Within and Without

2). Edith Piaf – Greatest Hits

3). Tribal Seeds – Self Titled

4). Bad Religion – No Substance

5). “Friends From the Road” Luckily while on tour, I would always pick up a cd of ppl from a band I met that I had a good time with. Even if it was just for a night. Due to this, I have a decent size collection of small unknown locals and regional bands that I spin on the regular, remembering good times and great shows.

TOP 5 adventures you’ve been on with the band.

1). Exploring ways to capture the sound of water and sounds of life underwater.

2). Attempting to photograph underwater in the open ocean.

3). Exploring film photography and motion picture film

4). “Finding THAT instrument” On any travel adventure, I keep an eye out for noise makers. However, on some occasions, we end up in an area that I know you can only get an authentic instrument from that specific area, then a quest within a quest is born.  For example, a garifuna drum.

5). Airport Security. I dare you to take these 1940’s 8mm cameras, countless rolls of films,  and goat hide drums back home without getting stopped. They really seem to love the explanation “It’s for my music project”

TOP 5 ways in which your band is awesome.

1). Anything dedicated to the ocean is awesome in my mind.

2). Nomadic is engineered to never stop.

3). Managing to sink film, microphones, and photographers underwater and recovering all assets SAFELY is pretty awesome.

4). Incorporating underwater visuals and a rotating live show lineup helps guarantee an unique live experience for show goers.

5). Being a part of the sonic storytelling community.
