Even now, 40 years on, the ‘classic’ era of Motörhead is still talked about, pawed over and endlessly praised for not only its influence on the metal world, but also which one of those albums is ranked the best with endless debates raging between ‘Ace of Spades’ and ‘Overkill’. Yet, the final album from this era, 1982’s ‘Iron Fist’ is quite often overlooked but thankfully, this year has Motörhead giving ‘Iron First’ the 40th Anniversary reissue treatment.

What the listener gets here is the original ‘Iron Fist’ album given a remaster and a polish up for modern era alongside a plethora of bonus tracks. From B-sides and demos through to working versions of ‘Iron Fist’ era tracks, most of the bonus tracks from the first disc have already been released in some shape or form previously. However, the real gem here with this 40th Anniversary edition is an entire show from the Glasgow Apollo 1982 which shows Motörhead in a warts n’ all (pun intended) performance. Yes, this gig shows Motörhead hitting bum notes, dropping out of time and forgetting words and the production could be cleaned up a lot more, but when cranked up loud, who gives a fuck, it’s the closest you’ll get to the real deal these days. Furthermore, not only will it come with an expansive booklet to celebrate the 40th anniversary, but there will also be a vinyl edition of ‘Iron Fist’ which will come as a triple vinyl. For those who like their vinyl to have a little bit more there will also be a limited-edition version of this vinyl featuring a blue and black swirl.

Whichever format you choose to consume your music on, this ‘Iron Fist’ reissue is a perfect way to celebrate the 40th birthday of an album which so often lives in the shadow of its predecessors.
