Melodic Rock

The very end of the late 80’s and the early 90’s saw melodic rock thrust itself into the limelight, albeit briefly as bands like Tyketto, Strangeways and Shy found themselves hobnobbing with the death throes of glam metal and rising star of grunge. One band who rode the airwaves were House of Lords (HoL) who are back for the first time since 2020 with their latest album ‘Saints and Sinners’.

Now, HoL have always placed melody above all else, this is partly down to James Christian’s soulfully powerful voice which has become synonymous with the movement and partly down to a wonderful, high-quality production which really engages the listener to continue. Therefore, ‘Saints and Sinners’ is another album from HoL which is full of those big stadium infused chorus’ designed solely for the crowd to sing along as the band cast out line after line and land melodic tuna by the dozen with tracks such as ‘Roll Like Thunder’, ‘Road Warrior’ and ‘House of the Lord’ showing that when it comes to song writing this is a band that still has plenty of gas in the tank.

Yeah, sure, ‘Saints and Sinners’ doesn’t exactly shy away from Christian themes, but the devil can’t have all the best tunes and there are some tracks here which are a little bit of filler, but all in all, ‘Saints and Sinners’ is the sound of HoL doing what HoL do best.
