If you pick up a metal shell, put it to your ear and listen you’ll hear the sound of the heavy metal underground. This is the sound of trad metal pulsating away with bands releasing gem after gem of albums which can challenge that of the old guard themselves. One such band are Trial from Sweden who have released their latest studio album ‘Feed the Fire’.

Anyone familiar with the sound of trad metal will know exactly what to expect from this release and those who have followed the career of Trial will know that this band was on the cusp of something amazing with the release of ‘Sisters of the Moon’ EP last year. ‘Feed the Fire’ picks up perfectly from this moment as galloping rhythms and soaring vocals bring about a nostalgic feel in within a modern touch as tracks like ‘Sulphery’, ‘Thrice Great Path’ and ‘The Faustus Hood’ have all the appeal of Ram, Portrait and Them coupled with the more classic sounds of In Solitude, Mercyful Fate and King Diamond. Yes, this does mean that there is quite a bit of worshipping at the altar of King Diamond here, but if you’re going to pick an altar to bow to, why would you pick any other?

This is an album of high-quality trad metal, it has very memorable tracks and a decent production that demands replays. If you’re looking for top drawer album of heavy metal delivered in that classic way, then ‘Feed the Fire’ is a no brainer.
