About Urania Fantasia

How do get to know someone? You can stalk their socials but if you want to bypass small talk and get to know your favorite bands and artists beyond the surface level, this is the place to be. Sometimes the oddball questions allow you to learn the most interesting things about a person and see the varied, unique, and special qualities of a creative mind. Shall we?

Welcome to Metal Digest’s ABOUT. column

Please introduce the band in the most spontaneous way.

WJR: Urania Fantasia is a Theatrical Symphonic Metal concept artist from The LovAnaverse Music Universe – which you can think of as being like the Marvel universe, but with rockstars instead of superheroes. Urania is essentially like a fantasy alter-ego of Pete, an androgynous, angelic diva who’s voice contains the magic of the elements.

What’s something an outsider wouldn’t know about your band?

WJR: All of the above – I’d have thought! It’s essentially a virtual band from a fictional universe, which is also home to other rock & metal bands (including Flavour Nurse, Yarimā & many more to come). That’s something you don’t see every day! In fact I’m pretty certain it hasn’t been done before, at least like this! First time listeners may also not realise that it’s a man singing! Pete has an incredible Sopranista voice, so he sings like a real Soprano 🙂

What’s the career highlight you’re most proud of?

WJR: I’m very proud of this song with Urania Fantasia. It’s that or releasing the debut album of my Arcane Rock band Flavour Nurse, after years in the making.

PR: Releasing my first single. Without a doubt it was a milestone for me.

Lyrics that stuck with you?

PR: There are so many! I couldn’t possibly give just one…but for The Arcane Muse – “I’m the birdsong late at night, the crunching of the snow, I’m the love song in your heart that no one else will know”

What’s the phone app you use most?

PR: Instagram, definitely!

WJR: I think I’d have to second Pete on that one.

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?

PR: I love to swim, take long walks in nature and of course singing 🥰

WJR: I’m actually not a big fan of days off! I prefer to instead focus on having a well balanced day to day life of productive work & time with my family 🙂

Are you more of a “play music to live” or a “live to play music” type of person?

PR: Live to play music – without a doubt.

WJR: Both. But ‘live to play music’ is definitely the driver. It’s what I absolutely love to do and that’s why I’ve chosen it as my personal best job in the world!

How would your 10-year-old self-react to what you do now?

PR: He would be totally shocked that I would ever be in this position doing the things I’m doing now. It’s definitely a reality check at times to think how far I’ve come in my own journey.

WJR: I think he’d be really happy with where things are at. Perhaps he was envisioning a bit more of a world tour scenario, but I definitely came to realise later that it was not really the best path for me.

What career advice would you give to young musicians in the rock and metal industry?

PR: Hone your craft, practise practise practise and never give up. Find out what it is you do best and own it, without any ego but with confidence. Champion your peers and put out what you want to receive.

WJR: If you want to be successful, then you need to treat your music as a business. It has never been more accessible than now. You can learn everything you need and build a fanbase entirely online. Take charge of that now, learn how to market your music and build community and that will get you a lot further on the road to governing your own success. You can do it!

If you could do it all over again, would you pursue the same career in music?

WJR: Absolutely, no doubt about it.

PR: I would do it 10 years sooner…that’s my only regret!
