Anthems of Gomorrah: “Tales from Aelvica”

We go to ask Anthems of Gomorrah a few questions on the go.

Welcome to Metal Digest!

Please describe the band in a single sentence.

We are a Melodic Black/Death Metal band from Florida.

What’s your latest project and what are you working on right now?

Our second album for the year of 2022 titled “Aelvica II” will be released digitally on August 15th. We’re also in the process of recording material for an EP in September and a third album titled ‘Aelvica III’ in December,

How do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?

We want people to listen with an open mind and not form expectations about our music based on other bands they have heard. We believe Anthems has a unique sound and unique songwriting. Let it take you away from the real world and into the narrative we’re creating with each release. Anthems is an escape for the listener just as much as it is for us as musicians and creators.

Major influences: Who put you on this path?

Tolkien, Moorcock, Jordan… countless other fantasy writers. We both grew up listening to Black, Death and Thrash Metal. They have been our favorite genres since we were kids so there’s no shortage of inspiration.

If you had to flee the country as a band, where would you choose to live?

Anywhere that allows freedom of expression and the arts but also somewhere with fantastic scenery (hopefully). I (TK) personally would enjoy Ireland.

What’s the ‘wow factor’ that makes YOU decide which songs to keep, record and release?

Does it flow correctly? Does it convey the imagery we have in our heads? Does it match the theme of the part or piece of the narrative? Sometimes superfluous sections or lyrics are completely done away with. Everything is done kind of right in the moment, so it’s hard to pinpoint what exactly it is that makes us agree.

It’s a mental thing, I guess. We just know when it’s ready or if it needs to be scrapped.

What’s the most hilarious band memory you can think of?

When I was 17, I did guest vocals with a friend’s band for one song. I had been sick recently and I was still feeling a little rough but decided to get up there anyway. Right before we started, I felt my entire stomach just bloat. I had to use the bathroom so bad, but I tried to hold it together. Halfway through the performance, I had to drop the mic and rush off stage to the bathroom and ended up in there for the next half hour. I left immediately afterwards. Didn’t stay to speak to anyone, just walked straight out the back and left. I was so embarrassed.

What would be the title of the band’s biography?

“Tales from Aelvica” would be the best title. It gets right to the heart of the worldbuilding concept we have.

What’s the next milestone you’d like to achieve as a band?

We’d like to find a label to help us release physical copies of our work. We want to share our music with as large of an audience as possible.

Thank you for this interview!

Until we meet again,

Chelf
