Melodic Power Metal

Step forth Georg Neuhauser and Marco Pastorino. The king of all the lands has summoned you both to embark on a quest to new lands, you must form an adventuring party and from our lands of Serenity and Temperance, you must head to the realms of Fallen Sanctuary and stake a claim in ‘Terranova’.

With Neuhauser and Pastorino at the helm, it is no surprise that Fallen Sanctuary is a melodic power metal beast. With their swords held aloft, ‘Terranova’ delivers high quality metal with leans on high fantasy without delving too much into it with Fallen Sanctuary able to touch on the elements of the human psyche and relationships. This does mean that tracks such as ‘Broken Dreams’, ‘Trail of Destruction’ and the great title track naturally have all the appeal of Serenity and Temperance, but who didn’t see that coming? However, ‘Terranova’ also carriers massive Sonata Arctica and Kamelot tones from back when the band were actually any good and worth listening with Neuhauser pulling off a pretty good Tony Kakko impression at times.

For those looking to whet their whistle on some new and interesting melodic power metal, then ‘Terranova’ is a really good shout. It won’t suddenly convert people to the power metal cause, but it will certainly provide something for current fans of the genre to really sink their teeth into.

"a decent album of melodic power metal"
