You can stalk their socials but if you want to bypass small talk and get to know your favorite bands and artists beyond the surface level, this is the place to be. Sometimes the oddball questions allow you to learn the most interesting things about a person and see the varied, unique, and special qualities of a creative mind. Shall we?

Welcome to Metal Digest’s ABOUT. column

What’s something an outsider wouldn’t know about your band?

Well, depending on genre, we are a metal Christian rock band. If you are just listening to the music, a lot of times people don’t even realize such. We pretty much rock like all the other bands but with a positive message. Something we believe is welcomed in these troubled times.

What’s the career highlight you’re most proud of?

It’s kind of ongoing. We get to rock and spread the good word with our music. We always have a lesson to be learned. It

is always a message of hope and that it’s never too late to change. I also like to throw in some scripture when I can.

Lyrics that stuck with you?

There’s an old Doors track where Jim Morrison says “music is your only friend, until the end. I remember many years ago that kind of was how I felt. Music is so powerful. It will always be there. It has the ability to make you feel all kinds of things and take you back to another time. Now moving forward, It’s not just music, it’s also the Holy Spirit. There is a song called “Way Maker.” “You are Way maker, miracle worker, promise keeper, Light in the darkness, my God, That is who You are.” It simply means that with the Holy Spirit, anything is possible.

What’s the phone app you use most?

Tinder. LOL. Actually, I would say Instagram. I’m always on their promoting the band and posting the latest band news.

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?

What’s that? I do enjoy Sundays. Go to church, go out for breakfast or make a really fu one at home. I am a sweet freak. A big weakness. Especially ice cream and dark chocolate. Maybe relax and watch a baseball of football game. Pretty simple stuff.

Are you more of a “play music to live” or a “live to play music” type of person?

Sounds like one of those tomato, tom-ah-to questions. We all have a purpose in life. Ours is to spread the Gospel through metal music and hopefully say something that someone needs to hear, at the right time.

How would your 10-year-old self-react to what you do now?

I am thinking that he would think it’s pretty cool. Ever since I was a little kid music is all I ever wanted to do. I think it would be so cool for him say “you did it.” Even though we still have a long way to go. But we are on the right path.

What career advice would you give to young musicians in the rock and metal industry?

It takes a lot of leg work, especially if you are unsigned. Be honest with what you have. Are you really good enough to make a run at it? If so, make sure that you have a professional product to represent the band. Spend the money and make a professional recording. If you are going to record your music in your bedroom, unless you are an amazing producer and engineer with a lot of tricks up your sleeve, it’s going to sound cheap and you will lose credibility. Spend a lot of time researching places to send your music and put together a professional email.

If you could do it all over again, would you pursue the same career in music?

Absolutely. Persistence is a key word. There are going to be some good times and probably lots of bad times. You need to hang in there. Seek some help from the higher power when you need it. He knows what you are going through and loves you.
