Pathos & Logos Top 5

For guitarist Kyle Neeley and drummer Paul Christiansen, celebrating Art as a system of spirituality and Magick was a way of life long before they formed Pathos & Logos, the band opening up new avenues for exploring these themes. The instrumental progressive duo create complex and involving pieces, dropping their debut Glory To The Order in 2020, and returning in 2022 with Cult, which is a far heavier release, but contains all the energetic peaks and valleys integral to their unique sound, delving deeper into that which they are channeling.

This is their TOP 5

TOP 5 pieces of equipment that every musician must own.

  1. Cell phone cables.  I can not stress how important this one is.  Without your cell, you will not have GPS to the next city you play in.  You will not be able to take credit or debit payments at your merch table.  You also will not be able to call the authorities when the zombie apocalypse breaks out.
  2. The Best tuner you can buy.  If you are a guitar player or bass player, Korg makes great stuff.
  3. Drum Key(s).  This is pluralized because you WILL loan them out and they WILL NOT be returned to you.  You will however, gain a new friend(s) in return!
  4. A Digital Audio Workstation to record your ideas.
  5. A Drum Dial.  This is a piece of equipment that if learned to use, will make every drummer sound better, and therefore the band sounds better.

TOP 5 pieces of advice NOT to follow, to make it in the music industry.

  1. Retain as much self agency as possible, for as long as you possibly can.
  2. Build your audience online before going out on the road.  Playing venues out of state to empty rooms will not only make you feel like shit, but the promoters will not want you back.  Bands that take to the road too early don’t make it.
  3. Do not pay to play.
  4. Your band should be self-sustainable.  I am going to repeat this,in all caps for effect.  YOUR BAND SHOULD BE SELF-SUSTAINABLE.  If you aren’t making enough money as a band to go on the road.  Don’t do it.  If you aren’t making enough money as a band to go to the big fancy studio, don’t do it.  A band in debt is a band that breaks up.
  5. Do not warehouse merch.  Sure, it may sound really enticing to get 400 shirts printed for only $3 each.  But can you SELL 400 shirts?  Warehousing merch costs money.  Start with small runs of merch, find out what sells, and build your bank.  Eventually, you will HAVE TO order 400 shirts at a time.

TOP 5 clicks on your playlist. What are you currently listening to, on repeat?

  1. Sevendust – Home ( we recently covered Sevendust on a Track to The Future segment we did for YouTube and it renewed my love of Sevendust)
  2. Meshuggah – Destroy Erase Improve (This has been on repeat for probably 20 years)
  3. Eagle – Hotel California (We tend to listen to Eagles on the way to the hotel after successful shows)
  4. Sleigh Bells – Texis (They took their lo-fi and went hi-fi!!)
  5. The Black Dahlia Murder – Nocturnal (I recorded Trevor’s vocals for this album when I worked at Trax East.  Terrible to hear of his passing.)

TOP 5 adventures you’ve been on with the band.

  1. We just wrapped up our 1st trek to NYC.  That was incredible.  Placing your feet in the Atlantic and realizing that your music got you there is a humbling experience.
  2. Anytime Tour Manager Supreme Justin Bickford is with us is an adventure.
  3. Driving to Texas in a blizzard in early 2022 was unforgettable.
  4. Visiting the burial sites of Dimebag and Vinny was surreal and heavy.
  5. Playing TMNT the arcade game with Rock Photographer John Loen every time we play in Nebraska.

TOP 5 ways in which your band is awesome.

  1. We have created our own language.  Yes, there is a cipher for it and it is located inside our first release ‘Glory to The Order’.
  2. We vest the rhythms of our songs with intention, while the keys of the songs are chosen depending on energies.  Each key has been bestowed a specific energy and rhythms are written with specific intentions; essentially making each song a spell or “formula” as we prefer to call them.
  3. Each formula on the new EP is released as a Tarot Card with unique and stellar artwork.  You can collect all of them to create what we refer to as the CODEX.  The collection is also released as a coffee table book.
  4. We have incredible merch.  People often come to the table to “go shopping”.
  5. Our love for interacting with our fans whether online or in person.  We try to be as approachable and available as possible to our fans.

Cheers,

Chelf
