It’s a story as old as time itself, form a band, play covers, and eventually gravitate into writing original material. This ye olde story can be applied to Vypera who after playing together as a cover band, changed their name, got down to business and now the Swedes have released their debut album studio album ‘Eat Your Heart Out’.

Vypera have delivered a debut album which sounds like it has years of experience beneath its feet. Each song on ‘Eat Your Heart Out’ has been meticulously planned out for maximum effect through a production which takes the listener back to a different era. In fact, this album could easily convince the listener that ‘Eat Your Heart Out’ is a lost gem from 1985 because tracks such as ‘Sierra’, ‘Fool for the Night’ and ‘Standing on the Edge’ have all the hallmarks of Dokken in their prime whilst also reaching towards the likes of King Kobra, Joe Lynn Turner era Rainbow and Icon with even a cheeky little nod towards W.A.S.P.

As an album, ‘Eat Your Heart Out’ is instantly enjoyable, it is one of those odd moments where it brings a smile to the face and the listener just wants to crank the volume up immediately. Yes, the album leans heavily on an 80’s sound, but that is certainly not a bad thing and although there are some who may whinge about this, pay no attention to them because Vypera have delivered an excellent debut album which sets the bar high for the rest of their career.
