You wanted the best and you got Kiss! Whether you like it or not, Kiss are one of the most influential bands of all time; from the early 70’s, Kiss’ influence is written across rock and metal. This year has Kiss continuing to release their ‘off the soundboard’ live albums with their 1996 headline slot at Donington Festival.

Recorded during the reunion of the classic Kiss line-up of Ace Frehley, Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley and Peter Criss, this is a set list fully devoted to Kiss in their prime; from the likes of monster tracks such as ‘Cold Gin’, ‘Detroit Rock City’ and ‘Do You Love Me’ to deeper cuts like ‘Let Me Go, Rock N’ Roll’, ‘Watchin’ You’ and ‘Firehouse’, it is guaranteed to make every Kiss fan belt it out loud and proud. However, as with all these soundboard recordings, this Donington show demonstrates Kiss at their most warts n’ all. This allows the listener to hear Kiss hitting wrong notes and being flat, showing the human side to both Simmons and Stanley respectively delivered completely in the raw, Stanley in particular as it really takes some time for his voice to warm up.

There is one thing that can never be doubted about Kiss and that is that Kiss know how to put on a show and the good time party vibes come across here. But if you’re expecting ‘Alive!’ or ‘Alive II’, then you’ll be disappointed and might as well just listen to them instead.

"another in the 'Off the Soundboard' series which shows Kiss with warts n' all"
