The sun is streaming through the window, the pollen count is high, and the temperature is starting to get on the uncomfortable side of warm. These are the times where the body needs death/doom metal. It needs it to cloud over, it needs the nights to draw in and the rain lashing against the window. Thankfully, Temple of Void (ToV) are back with their latest album ‘Summoning the Slayer’ to keep us nice and cool.

With ‘Summoning the Slayer’, ToV do everything in their power keep it short and sweet with seven tracks clocking in at just over 40 minutes making for an easy listen. When coupled with a great production, ToV really have hit the nail on the head here as crushing riffs drag gravel along the bass of the speakers. This is juxtaposed by melancholic vocals which hypnotically drag the listener in to the resounding misery within through tracks such as ‘A Sequence of Rot’, ‘Hex, Curse, & Conjuration’ and ‘The Transcending Horror’ delivering all the enjoyability of the likes of Hooded Menace, Druid Lord and Asphyx whilst also touching base with Solothus, Grave and Ilsa.

With ‘Summoning the Slayer’, ToV have really gone for it and it has paid off, this is a great album of death/doom that has the listener hooked, itching to play it over and over again and if you’re the sort of person who likes their death/doom on the heavier end of the scale, then ‘Summoning the Slayer’ is a really, really good shout.
