This afternoon in the Metal Digest office we’re getting a little bit progressive by blasting out ‘Queen of Time’, the 2018 album from Amorphis. In recent years, Amorphis have been on a roll with solid album after solid album of progressive meets melodic death metal coupled with luscious layers of instrumentation. This means that ‘Queen of Time’ is littered with more hooks than the thousand lakes in fishing season, unable to move a foot either side without being hooked by another infectious melody. Furthermore, for lifelong Amorphis fans, ‘Queen of Time’ heralded the return of bassist Olli-Pekka Laine to the fold meaning that the ‘Tales from the Thousand Lakes’ line-up was reunited for the first time since 1994. So this afternoon, crank up this masterpiece and one of the best albums of 2018 and follow the golden elk!
