Imagine the year 1 BC, it’s not that hard, 2019 was just one year Before Covid. 2019 was the year that Opeth released their ‘In Cauda Venenum’ album to raucous critical acclaim as fans of the band cement their place as modern progressive rock titans. Following a successful, if not delayed, North American tour, Opeth have reissued ‘In Cauda Venenum’ for fans to get little bit more from an album they already couldn’t get enough of.

What the listener gets here with this expanded edition of ‘In Cauda Venenum’ is not only that warmly received album, but also the whole album released and sung in Swedish, the bands native tongue allowing the listener to experience the album almost completely differently. Furthermore, the purchaser will also get six bonus tracks, one of which being the excellent ‘Width of a Circle’, which is surprisingly not a cover of the David Bowie track as someone may have hoped, but instead a whole brand-new track.

There are those that complain that Opeth lost their way when they adopted progressive rock, stopped growling and making death metal, but equally, over a decade into that career, Opeth have attracted a different breed of fans and it is those who will adore what the Swedes have delivered with this expanded edition. Yes, if you are passing fan of the band or not that enamoured with ‘In Cauda Venenum’, then this expanded edition will do nothing for you, but if you’re a huge fan of everything Opeth have done in the last decade, then this expanded edition offers well more bang for your buck.

"more stuff for the Opeth hardcore fanbase"
