Not ones to rush things, Monuments bring us a very finished article with their fourth studio album “In Stasis”. Always subtle of touch with catchy lines and melodic hooks, here we find the London-based Metal collective really letting the heaviest side of their character shine through. This time they mean Metal.

It’s nice to have a Monuments album whose title you don’t have to google for pronunciation and meaning. There is an underlying concept of isolation, and facing internal/existential battles throughout the lyrics of this album, and in a positive way this continuity has shaped a cohesive record of real fury.

What they have achieved here is not far short of incredible. Taking a step into even heavier territory without force or artifice will ably lead their established fanbase along the darker highway like it’s the most natural thing in the world, and it will undoubtedly find them a wider audience among those who may have previously dismissed them as “Pop-Metalcore” (they have always been more than that in all fairness!). Comparisons may be drawn to recent output from TesseracT and particularly Periphery; and who wouldn’t want that? Monuments leave nothing behind on the studio floor, and rightly deserve their place at the top table.

"Maintaining their hooks and pop sensibilities, just in a much heavier way"
