About Scarlatamusic

How do get to know someone? You can stalk their socials but if you want to bypass small talk and get to know your favorite bands and artists beyond the surface level, this is the place to be. Sometimes the oddball questions allow you to learn the most interesting things about a person and see the varied, unique, and special qualities of a creative mind. Shall we?

Welcome to Metal Digest’s ABOUT. column

Please introduce the band in the most spontaneous way

-”As far as Scarlatamusic goes, its origin goes back to 2016 as the Metal-Baby EP was in the midst of creation. Combining countless influences of music, a classic skate punk metal sound emerged as its own identity. As of May 2017, songs for what has become the Power Through album were created over the years leading into late 2021.”

What’s something an outsider wouldn’t know about your band?

-”Something a new listener may or may not detect is that Scarlatamusi is a solo project. From doing all of the song creation and instrumentation (the drums are edited drum tracks) to the recording and studio production, on through the mixing and mastering. It’s all my own work.”

What’s the career highlight you’re most proud of?

-”This is basically it! Finally getting this music vision to take root! You could say this album represents 25 years in the making. Being a self taught guitarist starting in my early 20s, I feel the time that has gone by along with life’s experiences can be heard in the creativity of the music.”

Lyrics that stuck with you?

-”Unlock the potential, the truth ye shall find. The field of creation, the eye of the mind.” Common Ground (track) The lyrics of this particular song go back to May 2017. The lyrics actually started as a poem and evolved into one of three songs I created with lyrics during the initial creative stage of Scarlatamusic.”

What’s the phone app you use most?

“Whatever can fit in the phone’s memory! Even as an online musician, I definitely take time to unplug from all technological devices. As far as phone apps, I mostly use facebook, instagram, and youtube…generally making my way into others as well. Of course paypal and venmo are useful.”

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?

-”I would have to say just being outdoors. Even if the weather is not overly pleasant.

Outdoor adventures are always a guaranteed way for me to charge my batteries. A day off certainly does not always need to be extravagant with adventure. Sometimes no plan is a good plan for a day off.”

Are you more of a “play music to live” or a “live to play music” type of person?

-”Both!!! Ha! To me it’s like a yin/yang symbol, one cannot exist without the other, always in a ceaseless cycle. I suppose when one is passionate enough about something, it becomes a 25h/ 8 day endeavor!”

How would your 10-year-old self-react to what you do now?

-“Cool!!!!” (much like I do now) I am still basically a kid. I enjoy being young at heart, one for health and longevity reasons, and also for the sake of inspiring the youth. I think a 10 yr old version of myself would be greatly inspired. Perhaps even take music more seriously at that age.”

What career advice would you give to young musicians in the rock and metal industry?

-”This is a question I absolutely love hearing all dedicated and successful artists answer… Never Give Up On Your Passion!!! Whether it’s music, sports or knitting, discover what you have a genuine creative passion for, and run with it! Always Improve in life!”

If you could do it all over again, would you pursue the same career in music?

-”Absolutely, only this time it begins sooner in life with music. Perhaps a more formal music training as a youth would have been more time efficient. I am also very grateful that I spent most of my youthful years being outdoors and as active as I possibly could be. Seeds of music were definitely planted at an early age, and didn’t really germinate until the later teens.”
