Deep Purple – ‘Machine Head’

Release Date
22/04/1972
Publisher
Purple Records
Genre
Hard Rock/Heavy Metal

This morning in the Metal Digest office, we’re blasting out ‘Machine Head’, the 1972 classic album from Deep Purple. After the misfire that was ‘Fireball’, Purple returned with what many call Purple’s greatest studio album. Yes it contains ‘Smoke on the Water’ and yes ‘Never Before’ was an odd choice for a single, but there are some great tracks here that get massively overlooked such as ‘Pictures of Home’ and who can deny the Ritchie Blackmore and Jon Lord solos during ‘Highway Star’. They are outstanding. So this morning, practice safe fire management when handling flare guns, forget Frank Zappa and Mothers of Invention and crank up ‘Machine Head’ instead.
