In the grand scheme of time, Evil Invaders have barely scratched the surface with the Belgian thrash/speed metallers tentatively dropping albums in a real exercise of quality over quantity. This year has Evil Invaders returning for the first time in 2017 with the long-anticipated third studio album ‘Shattering Reflection’.

Have those five years been worth the wait? Most definitely because Evil Invaders may have delivered their best album to date. Unlike their two previous efforts of foot to the floor heavy metal, there is a maturity to ‘Shattering Reflection’ which hasn’t been seen yet by the Belgians. This is no longer snot-nosed kids playing as fast as fuck, each song here is carefully thought out, planned and executed to an almost cold-shot veteran expertise. Previous albums of Evil Invaders may have relied on raw speed and energy to get them over the finish line, but by taking their foot slightly off the thrash metal gas and adding it more to the speed metal theatre, tracks such as ‘My World’, ‘In Deepest Black’ and ‘Forgotten Memories’ show a beautifully produced album leaning towards Agent Steel, Exciter and Razor with touches of Overkill and Flotsam and Jetsam. However, there still touches of that Testament/Exodus thrashing rage here, ‘Sledgehammer Justice’ and ‘The Circle’ continue to help build that bridge to the bands past with an aggressive beast lurking below the surface.

With ‘Shattering Reflection’, Evil Invaders have seriously upped the ante with a speed metal masterpiece. This is an album which shows that Evil Invaders have matured into a band which could take their sound and go toe-to-toe with the veterans of the scene and come out victorious on the other side.
