Eleven albums into their career, Swedish Heavy Rockers The Quill take stock; after all, just like everyone else in the business, they’ve had some downtime due to global lockdown. Before heading off for a cabin in the woods, and knuckling down on completing their eagerly anticipated new studio album, they have recently released “Live, New, Borrowed, Blue”, a compendium of recordings that didn’t really have anywhere else to go.
Ah, one of those albums then? Just for the fans? In this case, not at all. If you’ve not heard The Quill before, this is as good a way to start as any. There are songs left of 2019’s “Earthrise” that are every bit as good as those that made the album, there are a couple of really, really good covers, and perhaps most important for a debutant listener, some damned sweet live recordings of the band in full flight at Sweden Rocks Festival 2019.
So, more than just interesting curios for fans of the band, this is an entertaining piece in its own right. If you like your Hard Rock with a little bit of everything thrown in for good measure, give it a listen.
