AOR/Melodic Rock

The world of melodic rock and AOR is as deep as it is wide. The genre is a bustling scene of bands, many of which have been kicking back against the trends of the last 25 years plus, forging their own path regardless of mainstream popularity. One such band are Mecca, led by one time Jim Peterik protégé Joe Vana who this year are releasing their latest box set ’20 Years’.

For the melodic rock fan, ’20 Years’ is a real treasure trove of the Mecca career. What the listener gets here are Mecca’s three albums, from their self-titled 2002 debut, through 2011’s ‘Undeniable’ and ‘III’ from 2016 all kept neatly and stored beautifully in the ’20 Years’ box set. There is everything held here that melodic rock/AOR fans will love, high soaring choruses complete with full-on harmonies and exceptional playing that would make fans of Toto and even Mr Mister grab their air guitars/keyboards and really enjoy themselves. Furthermore, ’20 Years’ also treats the listener to some lovely extras tagged onto the end of each album with bonus tracks which dig into realms of demo takes as well as re-imagined versions giving the Mecca fan more bang for their buck.

If you already own all three of the Mecca albums, then the bonus tracks here ‘may’ not be enough to tempt a re-purchase. However, if you don’t and you are a fan of the genre that may have missed this band, then this is a great opportunity to collect all three of these underrated melodic rock/AOR gems into your catalogue.
