Questions on the Go | Spiral Skies

Please describe the band in a single sentence.

Spiral Skies plays on other planet´s kinda Rock

What’s your latest project and what are you working on right now?

Our latest project has been to find a new guitarist, and that we have completed very well. We are planning gigs and searching for a booking label to get us out in Europe. We are also very eager to write new songs!

How do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?

Oh, everything! I think the songs on the album are very diverse. Some are powerful, almost happy (if i could go so far by saying that) and some are very melancholic. I hope people can just have a good moment by listening to our music, and be inspired in some way.

Major influences: Who put you on this path?

For me, my biggest influencers in my twenties would be Floor Jansen, Tarja Turunen, and those female vocalists from the Symphonic metal bands. In my thirties I rarely listen to those bands and are more inspired by singers that doesn’t sing flawless and well-polished, but with tons of emotions and varieties in their vocal expressions. Like Tori Amos and Anna von Hauswolff for example.

If you had to flee the country as a band, where would you choose to live?

Oh… that is quite a question in these times. Personally I do love Sweden but I find it hard to accept that half of the year is a fucking disaster with snow, coldness and darkness. I hate it most of the time, because I get energy from the light and from nature. So I would probably fit better in a place where it is a bit longer spring and summer. OUr band would fit anywhere else in Germany according to all the possible places to play live, and easy access by car all over the country. Living in the capitol of Stockholm- we have to take a ride for 8 hours just to be able to leave Sweden. Would be better to have closer to the continent, haha.

What’s the ‘wow factor’ that makes YOU decide which songs to keep, record and release?

For me it is an instant feeling, often a certain melody or a series of chords that makes me instantly feel that “we got something over here” that comes up. I am really into melodies more than riffs.

What’s the most hilarious band memory you can think of?

We have a lot, we have so much fun together, especially when we are on the road. Maybe when we drove for 5 hours and played north of Sweden, and the openeing act just said that “Lets leave this venue, they don’t serve beer here”. And the crowd left, and when we entered we played for like …. 6 people? Not so hillarious but that opening act actually went over to us when we opened for Orange Goblin last november. They felt very sorry about it, and we just laughed a lot. I have more stuff but let´s keep thos private, haha

What would be the title of the band’s biography?

Spiral Skies “Rose Mary travels in Thyme”

What’s the next milestone you’d like to achieve as a band?

To work with a booking label and tour more. We really want to play, and I would say we are more energic and crazier live than on the album really, haha. So next milestone would be to play in some giant festival in Europe. We already played the biggest in Sweden, that was a mile-stone. And the fact that we will open for Coven this fall is beyond thrilling.
