Vintage rock n’ roll is big business, and no one does it as good as Sweden. This is a country which lives, eats and sleeps 70’s hard rock. One such band are Dead Lord who have been riding the success of their fantastic 2020 album ‘Surrender’ and this year has Dead Lord returning with their latest EP ‘Dystopia’.
What ‘Dystopia’ offers the listener is the chance to see Dead Lord deliver a stop gap in their career. This is an EP that shows the band having a hell of a lot of fun that becomes highly infectious to the listener. To achieve this, ‘Dystopia’ offers an EP of mainly covers where Dead Lord can pay homage to their heroes as the band run through covers of tracks from the likes of D-A-D, Winterhawk and Moon Martin. Furthermore, the listener also gets Dead Lord performing a rockin’ cover of Rory Gallagher’s ‘Moonchild’ as the band gets their real 70’s rock groove on. Yet, where this EP really excels is the bands own work such as the title track and a version of ‘Letter from Allen St.’ sang in the bands native tongue which is thoroughly enjoyable.
It may be a stop gap and a bit of fun, but ‘Dystopia’ is an excellent EP. It continues to show that Dead Lord are going places with some old-fashioned rock n’ roll. Can’t ask for more than that can you?
