This morning in the Metal Digest office, we’re turning up the volume on ‘The Great Cold Distance’, the 2006 divisive album by Katatonia. With this album, Katatonia took a rather large step away from the melancholy Gothic death/doom that had made them famous and began to embrace other ideas such as shoegaze, hard and alternative rock. Although this album polarised the fan base, it seemed to be a masterstroke for the band as ‘The Great Cold Distance’ showed that Katatonia could spread themselves far and wide and conquer new territories which continues to this day. So this morning, why not dig out something a little more easy listening whilst you sip on your coffee and ignore the world.
