When it comes to bloody knuckles, shit kicking moshing and uncontrollable angry riffage, does any genre do it any better than hardcore? The answer is no. This is a genre in which those who don’t fit are easily ostracised as posers. One band who threw their hat into the ring are Smash Your Enemies (SYE) with the rising Detroit hardcore stars having released ‘Genocide’ their latest EP.

What SYE deliver here is an absolutely battering EP of hardcore, this is a brutal face punching, bloody eye gouging and rusty fish hooking riffage. Through a raw production which grabs hold of the listener and knees them directly in the bollocks as tracks such as ‘Ferocity’, ‘Faithless’ and ‘God Hates the Living’ have all the sweat drenched power of Madball, Agnostic Front and Kublai Khan, but ‘Genocide’ delivers a huge metallic elements that would be more accustomed to the likes of Hatebreed.

As an EP, ‘Genocide’ does exactly what it sets out to do. It’s angry and it’s a pugilistic right hook that slugs the listener to the floor through seven tracks of raw power. There isn’t anything here that hasn’t been done before but it is a nice stop over between releases which proves that SYE are the real deal.
