Throughout the last 40 years, death metal has grown into a colossal beast of a genre as old crusties began to run covering their ears at the ‘noise’. We have titans ruling the metal airwaves through Death, Morbid Angel and Entombed, to Bloodbath, Gruesome and Decapitated and in amongst them are Immolation who have released their ‘Acts of God’.
As a band, Immolation have always stuck to their guns and delivered solid album after solid album of death metal for the last 30 years now. Back in 2017, Immolation outdid themselves with their fantastic ‘Atonement’ and it was always going to be a tall order, but in all honesty, ‘Acts of God’ takes it close to the wire. This is another excellent album of death metal with Immolation doing what Immolation do best, there is everything here that death metal fans could want, blasting drums, thrashing guitars and powerful growled vocals delivered through a wonderful modern production.
Clocking in at just over 50 minutes, ‘Acts of God’ is almost a perfect length to listen to without it ever overstaying its welcome. Sure, some of the tracks are a little forgettable, but above all else, this another excellent offering from Immolation, it’ll be played for many years to come and don’t be surprised if this is held in high regard at the end of the year.
