When it comes to bonkers science-fiction and heavy metal, not many bands come close to our even surpass Voivod. The Canadian progressive metallers have been twisting the very concepts of what our brains can handle for 40 years now, and the band are back with their latest offering ‘Synchro Anarchy’.
Anyone who knows Voivod will know that to follow the band, you’ll need a super processer, a tech manual and definitely some aspirin for the inevitable headache which follows, and ‘Synchro Anarchy’ is no different. But much like every Voivod album, this album is once again massively worth the effort, this is an excellent album of pure crazy progressive metal with a thrashing undercurrent as tracks such as ‘Planet Eaters’, ‘Paranormalium’ and ‘Sleeves Off’ are amongst some of the best work that Voivod have ever put to record, ‘Planet Eaters’ could easily sit alongside any track on ‘Killing Technology’, ‘Dimension Hatröss’ and ‘Nothingface’ and that isn’t a bad place to be. What ‘Synchro Anarchy’ shows is a band firing on every cylinder, the time changes are magnificent to behold and of course Snake’s vocals which are as impressive as ever.
‘Synchro Anarchy’ is the sound of Voivod continuing their massive purple patch, it is another excellent album in a string of great albums and Voivod fans will absolutely play it to death.
