Thrash Metal/Crossover

For all its seriousness, thrash and crossover have had their fair share of piss-takes and silly tongue in cheek projects, hell, ‘Speak English or Die’ is a pretty big example, but on the other side of the Atlantic, the UK had their own thrash jokers with Lawnmower Deth, who have delivered ‘Blunt Cutters’, their first studio album since 1994.

Let’s face it, we all know what we’re going to get with Lawnmower Deth, ‘Blunt Cutters’ is not an album which takes itself seriously and nor should it be, this is Lawnmower Deth after all. ‘Blunt Cutters’ knows how to turn up thrash/crossover power with some real foot stomping riffs guaranteed to start a mosh pit in any venue with tracks such as ‘Into the Pit’, ‘Bobblehead’ and ‘Deth! Maim! Kill’, but the live environment is where Lawnmower Deth excel and it is where these tracks will get an added oomph. Naturally, there’s the silly interludes, ‘Raise Your Snails’, ‘Swafega’ and ‘Space Herpes’ are enough to bring a smile to the face of even the most dour metalhead, but that’s exactly what ‘Blunt Cutters’ aims to do, it’s an amusing smirk that brightens up a shit day.

An album, ‘Blunt Cutters’ isn’t exactly great, it can be a lot of fun whilst being played and it’s entertaining, but that is really it. However, if you really want to see Lawnmower Deth do what they’re good at, then go and see them play ‘Blunt Cutters’ live, guarantee you’ll have a better time than listening to the record.

"'Blunt Cutters' brings a smirk after a shit day at work"
