Some debut albums really sound like debuts, but not this one. Formed only in 2019, the production quality of ‘Atlas of the Spiritual Apocalypse’ is incredible enough to lead you into thinking Voidfallen have been around for at least a decade.
After at atmospheric intro, ‘Remnants of the Heart’ powerfully blasts its way in and sets the mood right for the rest of the tracks. The melodies throughout this album are complex and entrancing, never more so than in the album’s penultimate track ‘The Slaves of the Echo Chambers’ which presents like an anthem. With its squealing riffs and energetic drumming, it almost makes you want to get up and rally an army.
Punctuated here and there throughout are more atmospheric moments that could place the listener right in the middle of a fantasy world. Even the song titles are cleverly in tune – ‘From Souls to Embers’ moving into ‘From Embers to Fall’ capturing the way these two complement each other, with the latter showcasing stunningly haunting vocals.
With such a well-established sound as this, Voidfallen absolutely know what they are doing and will hopefully continue to do so for a long while.
