This afternoon in the Metal Digest office, we’re blasting the self titled debut album from everyone’s favourite 70’s occult rockers Blue Öyster Cult released way back in 1972 and celebrates its 50th birthday today . Even during their first outing, Blue Öyster Cult were giving hints as to where they were heading, the black and white album would continue to drive the sound of those early albums with tracks such as ‘Redeemed’, ‘Workshop of Telescopes’ and ‘Transmanicon MC’ all have a creeping sense of heaviness coupled with an irony which manages to flap right over the heads of many. So crank it up loud today and remember, if you’re on the lamb, you ain’t no sheep.
