Lordi really opened the lid on Pandora’s Box when they began releasing their ‘Lordiversity’ project late last year, a box set of seven albums all sounding massively different harking to a different era in music. So far, we’ve had things as different as disco and thrash and now 80’s hard rock/AOR as Lordi push the boundaries of what they’re capable of with their latest release ‘Humanimals’.

The sound of ‘Humanimals’ is obviously Lordi up to their usual tricks with this latest offering. Naturally, this is done to an excellent quality as Finnish monsters turn the clocks back to 1986 with catchy hard rock/AOR that is so dangerously catchy and infectious that it could easily be a new Covid-19 variant… minus the deadly implications obviously. This does mean that tracks such as ‘Borderline’, ‘Heart of a Lion’ and the rockin’ ‘The Bullet Bites Back’ have all the enjoyability of Survivor and Journey as well as Bon Jovi and late 80’s Alice Cooper and Kiss, it is drenched in keyboards, crisp drumming and giant, anthemic chorus’ that implore the listener to sing along. ‘Humanimals’ even has a homage to Kiss with the Paul Stanley penned ‘Like a Bee to the Honey’ which features fellow Finn Michael Monroe.

Any fan of this genre is sure to love what Lordi have done here. This is once again the sound of Lordi have a fuck load of fun and doing a bloody good job at it.

"fans of 80's hard rock and AOR are bound to love this"
