Some bands just know how to celebrate, be it with a crate of beer a la Tankard, a mountain of cocaine like Led Zeppelin, every drug under the sun in the footsteps of Ministry or a 40” howitzer with Sabaton. However, Feuerschwanz don’t need any of that because they’ll crack out the medieval instruments at any given notice and break into a merry dance with the release of their latest album ‘Memento Mori’.

Armour. Check. Battle standards. Check. Shield maidens. Check. With that Feuerschwanz are ready for war and who can blame them, with 2021 being as shit as it’s been, we need a band who can deliver a smile with their brand of foot-tapping good time folk/metal. Thankfully, ‘Memento Mori’ is full of it, in fact, it is everything that any fan of folk/metal and indeed Feuerschwanz could ever want as guitars and drums meld effortlessly with hurdy gurdies, violins , flutes and bagpipes with Feuerschwanz leading the listener in a dance through the forest with tracks such as ‘Ultima Nocte’, ‘Hannibal’ and the excellent ‘Krampus’ with its powerful Euro-metal vibe having all the enjoyability of Powerwolf whilst the remainder of the album would hugely appeal to fans of Turisas, Schattentantz and even Korpiklaani.

There is an overly familiar feel to ‘Memento Mori’, the listener knows exactly what it sounds like and although it may be a little ‘safe’ for Feuerschwanz, it is certainly no less enjoyable and if you need a little pick me up, then ‘Memento Mori’ certainly has that feelgood power.

"a feel good album of folk/metal"
