New Wave of British Heavy Metal

Biff Byford, Paul Samson, Steve Harris and Brian Tatler, these are just some of the names associated with the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) music scene of the late 70’s and early 80’s. But many of these people had careers which stretched way back to the start of the 1970’s with many even forgotten in the mists of time. With names like this floating about, one name which may escape the eyes and ears is Blaque Jaque Shallaque with High Roller Records releasing ‘Blood On My Hands’, a retrospective of possibly NWOBHM’s most forgotten band.

NWOBHM aficionados will be frothing at the mouth at the possibility of getting their Newcastle Brown-stained paws on ‘Blood…’. Blaque Jaque Shallaque was the brainchild of Dave Tattum known for his work on Angel Witch’s ‘Frontal Assault’ and ‘Screamin’ ‘N’ Bleedin’’ and they will find a collection of demos, rehearsals and live recordings from Blaque Jaque Shallaque, but they will also find two tracks from the Bill The Murderer 7” single, one of Tattum’s pre- Blaque Jaque Shallaque band. Thankfully, these recordings aren’t massively shit sound quality, sent directly from a knackered old tape; instead the sound has been enhanced and mastered to give it a better quality than what the listener would expect to be knocking on a release such as this.

‘Blood…’ provides NWOBHM collectors are a real chance to get themselves something that was until now, rocking horse shit rare. This album won’t hold up much for passing metal fans, or even passing NWOBHM fans, but for the hardcore collectors, much like Christmas, it has come early.
