Symphonic Metal

Think of symphonic metal and your mind will immediately go to wooded forests, snow, a moody looking band dressed in black fronted by corset clad lady hitting some exceptionally high operatic notes. Yet, symphonic metal isn’t always about this, Agarthic are challenging this trope exchanging the Nordic woods for the Dolomites of Italy with their debut album ‘The Inner Side’.

The sound which permeates the speakers with ‘The Inner Side’ is not the sound of a bunch of kids struggling to find their identity or some young adults paying homage to their heroes. No, Agarthic have delivered the sound of experience, this is an adult album of symphonic metal which leans heavily on a power and progressive metal bedrock. The Italian band know what they’re doing and they’re doing it really well, the listener gets the feeling this wasn’t formed spontaneously in the rehearsal room; this is an album which has been crafted, scored and conducted at the highest level of musicianship as ‘The Inner Side’ takes on feelings of the human psyche and the romanticism of nature in an almost soundtrack format with tracks such as ‘The Ancient Secret Scroll’, ‘Escape to Antarctica’ and ‘Illuminati’s Reign’ showing a band on top form.

What Agarthic offer with ‘The Inner Side’ is an album which grows and grows with each listen, it is more than enjoyable and there is always something to discover. For a first offering, this is nothing short of excellent and long may it continue.
