About Dust Prophet

How do you get to know someone? You can stalk their socials but if you want to bypass small talk and get to know your favorite bands and artists beyond the surface level, this is the place to be. Sometimes the oddball questions allow you to learn the most interesting things about a person and see the varied, unique, and special qualities of a creative mind. Shall we?

About Dust Prophet.

Please introduce the band in the most spontaneous way.

We’re Dust Prophet. We play stoner/doom metal with the sole intention of conquering all planets in the solar federation. We have assumed control.

What’s something an outsider wouldn’t know about your band?

Our drummer Tyler is left handed, which would have branded him a heretic in medieval times and most likely led to his execution.

Fortunately, times have changed, although Tyler is still left handed.

What’s the career highlight you’re most proud of?

Being invited to play big shows like the Maryland Doom Fest and the New England Stoner & Doom Fest. For a small independent band like us, being asked to be part of bigger festival shows is a huge honor. A close second is having a Hooters waitress recognize us when we were getting food after a show.

She said “hey you’re that band that always ordered wings with ranch dressing instead of blue cheese”!

Lyrics that stuck with you?

“Hey fat girl, come here. Are you ticklish?” and the following line “I once got busy in a Burger King bathroom”. As a kid that was my introduction to Burger King and their infamous bathrooms.

What’s the phone app you use most?

STDs and Me. It tracks what sexually transmitted diseases are most prevalent in my area.

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?

If it’s a rainy day, I love going for a drive and finding a huge puddle to splash some poor onlooker with. I go real fast and nail that puddle. Then laugh as the unsuspecting sap on the sidewalk gets drenched. I also like to go to my local orphanage and yell “get your bags kids, you finally have a forever home” before driving off. Boy those kids sure do get angry!

Are you more of a “play music to live” or a “live to play music” type of person?

My internal programming demands I play music in order to survive, so I guess I play music to live. Otherwise, my self-destruct button is activated.

How would your 10-year-old self-react to what you do now?

He’d probably think I was cool and had a fascinating life. Boy would he be wrong! And disappointed.

What career advice would you give to young musicians in the rock and metal industry?

I’m probably the worst person to ask this because I’ve made a million mistakes and never seem to learn. But I always try to emphasize that you need to play music because it’s something you genuinely love to do. If you’re doing it to be rich ro famous then your priorities are not in the right place, and you’re setting yourself up for disappointment.

If you could do it all over again, would you pursue the same career in music?

Sure! That’s assuming my career as a foot model doesn’t work out. That’s always been my plan B.
