Symphonic Power Metal
Is there any band with as many daft changes to their name and different version of the band than Rhapsody of Fire (RoF)? The Italian power metal maestros have delivered some of top quality heavy metal that has been dogged by Rhapsody, Rhapsody of Fire, Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody, Turilli/Lione Rhapsody… exactly, where do you go with that? Thankfully, RoF found their stride again with ‘The Eighth Mountain’ back in 2019 and now, the band have returned with their latest offering ‘Glory for Salvation’.
What RoF offer with ‘Glory for Salvation’ is another ferocious offering of symphonic power metal delivered through the high-fantasy themes that has come to be synonymous with the Italian masters. This is high octane heavy metal, ‘Glory for Salvation’ continues to add to everything that RoF had to rebuild on ‘The Eighth Mountain’ following the lacklustre ‘Legendary Years’. Tracks such as ‘I’ll Be Your Hero’, ‘Terial the Hawk’ and ‘The Kingdom of Ice’, gallop forward over hill and valley all aided by the symphonic keyboard soundscaping of Alex Staropoli who has been so integral to that RoF sound throughout the years. These sounds all provide the perfect cradle for vocalist Giacomo Voli to weave his magic through a soaring operatic vocal performance that is among some of his best work and not just with RoF.
‘Glory for Salvation’ is the sound of band consolidating being back on top of their game. For fans of power metal, there have been some exquisite albums released this year, but what RoF show is that you can never write off veterans.
