Questions on the Go | Death In Paradise

Death in Paradise is Joel Beazer’s rock/punk-rock band and we got to ask them a few questions on the go!

Welcome to Metal Digest!

Please describe the band in a single sentence.

No holds barred, mean machine, gasoline drinkin’  bunch of bastards

What’s your latest project and what are you working on right now?

The project is Death in Paradise , we’ve just released our first single ‘Closer’ with the lovely Staff at The Animal Farm label. Right now, I’ve just arrived in the UK from Portugal, where I was finishing up the last bit of tracking for the upcoming record “Sacrificing the Goat” and getting some rehearsals in. So now I’m bouncing around trying to locate rehearsal rooms and looking to get some bookings soon.

How do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?

A sense of connection and escape…we want the energy we feel when we play to resonate..

Major influences: Who put you on this path?

Major influences would have to be bands like Guns n Roses, Soundgarden, Deftones and A Perfect Circle, but the path however, for the most part,  derives from each and every messed up and turbulent experience we all had to endure and often still do ..

If you had to flee the country as a band, where would you choose to live?

(Laughs)  I think we’d be pulling and tugging each other in different directions…Anton ( drummer) would definitely want to go somewhere warm and sunny, like Hawaii or something, not surprising, he’s Finnish and often wear tropical style shirts, you know the ones with coconut trees? Maybe a flamingo here and there? ..I’m exactly the opposite..I love the big cities, the buzz and rock n roll energy around me always…..Luiz ( Bass) , well he just wants to play..so I don’t think it would matter to him anyway!  Wait, what exactly are we fleeing from?

What’s the ‘wow factor’ that makes YOU decide which songs to keep, record and release?

Consequential, significant and often telling songs make the cut…it helps having some of my more ambitious approaches to guitar work and the music altogether, you know?

What’s the most hilarious band memory you can think of?

Death in Paradise is a relatively new band and we haven’t been together long enough to have had the very best one yet…but I’ll tell you one about when I was on tour in the US with a previous band…This, well I guess you’d call her a ‘band-aid’ drove an entire state across to see us play… After the performance that night, she didn’t want to drive back, so she insisted that she slept in my hotel room…..The only problem was that night out of all the others, we all were sharing that one room. So the rest of the guys said they would leave the venue much earlier, and for me to follow after, together with the chick. When she and I reached the hotel room,  as I slowly cracked the door…all I could hear was “Shhh! Shhhh! Shoosh!  They were all pretending to be snoring! …it was dark and I could see the white of their eyeballs ( as they were “snoring”) and as she undressed! When she left in the morning, man I swear, as soon as the door shut behind her…it was the Biggest uproar of amusement and laughter! She was a good sport!

What would be the title of the band’s biography?

Tattoos, strippers, and whiskey!

( laughs) so clichéd, I’d say maybe, perhaps ‘ the little band that could..’

What’s the next milestone you’d like to achieve as a band?

It would be awesome to go on the road for a long time and back into the studio…I think we’re all just fed up of the same old shitty routine at the moment and need a shake-up and some excitement…Anton and I are always moving around.. so staying in different hotels every night and being on the road would be the perfect situation for us and we’ll be doing exactly what we love and need to do. Releasing the album “Sacrificing the Goat” or at least more material. We’re very anxious to do that…
