Questions on the Go | Simple Radicals

The Simple Radicals are a retro rock band from the great blues and rock city of Chicago, Illinois, featuring John Malkin on Lead Vocals and Rhythm Guitar and John Griffin on Lead Guitar and Vocals.

We got to ask them few questions on the go.

Please describe the band in a single sentence.

We’re a retro rock band from the great blues and rock city of Chicago that capture the passion and energy of our collective musical experience and create pure, visceral rock ‘n’ roll – poignant, from the heart, topical and direct.

What’s your latest project and what are you working on right now?

We just released a new song called “Let’s See What You Got” that includes a hard driving rockabilly sound along the lines of Queens of the Stone Age and ZZ Top (Let’s See What You Got). It was used as a soundtrack to a really cool WWE video of wrestlers doing some incredible moves and aerials  WWE Video.

How do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?

We just really want them to enjoy it. It’s that simple. Our style of music and playing is very driving and inspiring and ideally, we want our fans old and new to love what they hear.

Major influences: Who put you on this path?

We’re inspired and influenced by the sounds of Foo Fighters, Peral Jam, Green Day, Tom Patty and Cheap Trick.

If you had to flee the country as a band, where would you choose to live?

Italy for sure. No offense to any other country. Not even ours.

What’s the ‘wow factor’ that makes YOU decide which songs to keep, record and release?

I (John Malkin) write all the songs. Once I finish a tune, I lay down a scratch demo track and send it to my fellow Radical John Griffin. If he approves of it then we’re a go. It’s that basic. So far, we feel pretty good about our track record based on how our fans are responding when they listen to them and see us live.

What’s the most hilarious band memory you can think of?

Between the two of us we have numerous. Some probably not worthy to print. But we recently played a show where two women were dancing around with hula hoops throughout the entire show. It was hard not to watch them from the stage. They were really good at it!

What would be the title of the band’s biography?

The Simple Radicals: For the Love of God Don’t Ever Give Up

What’s the next milestone you’d like to achieve as a band?

We’ve been so fortunate to play some incredible venues like the iconic Cutting Room in New York City where Bowie and many other great bands have played. We’re now really angling to play more music fests so we can gain exposure with a versatile crowd.
