Remember those cartoons from the 60’s where the legs would be spinning in a blur before they hit the ground running. This is the image that goes round in the head for Evil Hunter, the Spanish metal band who got going immediately with their self-titled debut album in 2018 and now, the band are back with their topically titled sophomore album ‘Lockdown’.

For ‘Lockdown’, this is an album that is metal right down to its core, this is classic heavy metal delivered through a contemporary production which allows every instrument to be heard clearly without being sanitised of life. ‘Lockdown’ delivers foot stomping riffs that are guaranteed to make the head bob along with appreciation as tracks such as ‘Guardian Angel’, ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ and ‘Fear Them All’ have all the classic appeal of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Saxon whilst having all the influence of more homegrown acts such as Barón Rojo and Lords of Black with vocalist Damián Chicano able to give the like of Ronnie Romero a run for their money with rasping voice which soars with the energy and integrity of Ronnie James Dio.

Evil Hunter have delivered a great album of solid metal; yes, there is actually nothing here that fans of heavy metal will not have heard before, but when its done well, it is done masterfully and that is exactly what ‘Lockdown’ is.

"a great album of solid metal"
