Ophelia’s Eye Top 5

Ophelia’s Eye previously known as Project Penny and later on Red Fire Dragon. As both names occurred to be too generic and not fitting the band’s music the band decided to change the name to Ophelia’s Eye based on the novel “The Sandman” from E. T. A. Hoffmann. The story is about the traumatic childhood experience of the student Nathanael which makes its way to the surface through the surprising encounter with the weather glass dealer Coppola. He believes he recognizes the devilish lawyer Coppelius, who is responsible for his father’s death. When the beautiful but quite Olimpia captivates him, he loses himself more and more between delusion and reality. To make the name sound rounder, Olimpia is called Ophelia in the band name.

Through our songs, they hope the listeners will lose the connection to reality – at least for a while.

This is their TOP 5

TOP 5 pieces of equipment that every musician must own.

Of course, the instrument the musician plays, a metronome, good headphones, lozenges for the voice or anti-inflammatory cream for the instrumentalists, and a recording device to capture good ideas for further songs.

TOP 5 pieces of advice NOT to follow, to make it in the music industry.

1) “Play free shows to get exposure.” If a venue or promoter assures you a lot of people will come, why isn’t it even possible to at least give you some travel money?

2) “Only do what you’re passionate about.” Clearly, passion is one of the most important parts to be successful and have resilience against obstacles on your way. But even if you don’t like setting up social media, Promotional plans, Websites, and stuff like that: It is necessary and part of being a band these days.

3) “Use every opportunity you get.” If all the offered opportunities are good and fair, then sure, go for it. But probably, not every offer is a good offer. Especially in terms of promotional services, there are a lot of over-priced services that don’t really benefit you, so it’s not a bad thing to say no to them since you don’t have endless resources – financially and physically.

4) “Always work hard and someday you will reach your goal.” Also, partially true we think. Clearly, it needs hard work and a lot of time and effort. But sometimes it’s good to know when you just should have dinner together instead of a rehearsal to strengthen your band relationship or when it’s just not the right time to write a new song. If you pressure yourself that each rehearsal needs to be productive it will just demotivate you in the long-run and may take creativity a way for a longer time as if you just can live with a rehearsal in between that is just fun.

5) “Keep away from people you don’t like.” There will always be people you don’t like in every business.

If they behave properly and have an impact on your career, just deal with them in a professional way. Of course if those people don’t have manners, don’t help you with your career and so one, it’s better to stay away.
