Thrash metal has always been a genre that could very rarely rely on good looking poster boys and girls and therefore always had to let the music do the talking. Thrash did this exceptionally well and this year has Wreck-Defy returning with ‘We Got You Covered’ a stop gap EP of cover tracks.

In their short existence, Wreck-Defy have delivered three albums of classic sounding thrash metal. Therefore, it is no surprise that Wreck-Defy are taking an enjoyable break with this EP of covers. Oddly, these are not covers of thrash songs or even metal songs; instead, Wreck-Defy choose an odd set of Canadian covers of Bryan Adams, The Tragically Hip, Steppenwolf and Loverboy which feature powerful and established vocalists such as David White, Geoff Thorpe, Stu Block and Henning Basse. Naturally, these vocalists do their task with the utmost professionalism that these names have synonymous with.

However, is there actually any point in this EP? Realistically? No. These songs are done well and are enjoyable for a one or two off listens, but ‘We Got You Covered’ has little to offer anyone who isn’t a massive fanatical fan of Wreck-Defy and it might be better saving the cash in your pocket for what will undoubtedly be another great studio album when Wreck-Defy return.

The songs covered here are done very well and delivered professionally but ultimately, that is just it.
