Melodic Heavy Metal/Hard Rock
Ronny Munroe might be a name that some metal fans have overlooked or even forgotten about. The singer fronted Metal Church on two separate occasions between 2003-09 and then again between 2012-14 and outside of these tenures, Munroe has kept himself busy with various bands and projects, the latest of which is Between Worlds as the band release their eponymous debut album.
As an album ‘Between Worlds’ actually isn’t initially the most captivating. But after a few listens, this album really becomes a massive grower and Munroe’s voice becomes very endearing as each track swoops and soars with endless melodies that are exceptionally captivating. Tracks such as ‘These Walls’, ‘Scent of an Angel’ and the ‘Dr. Feelgood’ beat of ‘Soul Chaser’ stand tall and create perfect anchor points within the album as Munroe’s voice delivers an excellent blend of hard rock and melodic heavy metal in the vein of Nils Patrik Johansson, Gary Barden and Graham Bonnet with touches of Astral Doors and even Firewind and Angel Dust. However, Munroe’s lyrics are a little ‘spiritual’ and may not appeal to those less inclined to that nature.
What Ronny Munroe has delivered with ‘Between Worlds’ is an excellent piece of hard rock and melodic heavy metal that has the potential to have a wide appeal. This album may not pull the listener in immediately, but after a few listens, it will be difficult to not play it again and again.
