Questions on the Go: Next Stop Olympus

Next Stop Olympus is a Salisbury based band mixing the heavy breakdowns and screaming vocals of metalcore with the guitar solos and big choruses of rock n roll.

We got to ask them a few questions on the go.

Welcome to Metal Digest

Please describe the band in a single sentence.

Next Stop Olympus is a Post-hardcore/ Metalcore band with our own twist of rock ’n’ roll in our sound

What’s your latest project and what are you working on right now?

We’ve just released our new EP ‘Heart, Mind & Hell’ in April, we’re extremely proud of the release and we’re really happy to finally have it out there after sitting on it for so long due to Covid, as for what we’re working on now, we’ve started writing for whatever comes next and trying to get out there to play ‘Heart, Mind & Hell’ to as many people as possible.

How do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?

We want people to take away whatever they need from our songs, this release was very personal to all of us and we’re poured a lot of our lives and our own issues into the songs so if people can relate and it helps then great! But if they just like the song because they think it is a good song then that’s sick too, we just want as many people as we can to hear it.

Major influences: Who put you on this path?

Matt: No one per se put me on this path, I fell in love with music and live shows and it all just started from there, I tried with other projects or tried to start other projects before but nothing came from them the way NSO has.

Conor: I always go back to Scary Kids Scaring Kids when it comes to the style of vocals that I do! When it comes down to performing it’s something I’ve always enjoyed just as a fan of live music, comedy shows and theatre.

If you had to flee the country as a band, where would you choose to live?

Matt: Personally I’d say America, there so many more shows over there we could try to get involved with!

Conor: America! To be able to play the number of festivals they have over there and of course, the biggest tours are always in the states.

What’s the ‘wow factor’ that makes YOU decide which songs to keep, record and release?

Matt: We write and build all the songs together so it’s never really too hard to decide on anything when we’re writing because we’re all deciding together as we go.

Conor: Pretty much echoing Matt, we have it in mind how many songs are going on the next record and just put our all into making that many tracks that we really dig.

What’s the most hilarious band memory you can think of?

Matt: For me it would have to be when we played a show once and Conor got lucky after our set and disappeared then when he came back later in the evening he hadn’t realized there was a very suspect looking stain on his shirt which awarded him a nickname then has stuck around since.

Conor: It’s hard to narrow it down really, we’ve had a lot of fun when we’ve been out and about with a lot of very aggressive one-liners thrown at each other, plus I like to do a few things on stage just to get the boys to laugh…usually Skips.

What would be the title of the band’s biography?

Matt: Well we actually have a song named after Motley Crue’s biography ‘The Dirt’ so I suppose we could probably find a way to tie that into it.

Conor: That’s a tough one but I think I’d go for ‘Oops! (The story of a bunch of idiots writing rock ’n’ roll).

What’s the next milestone you’d like to achieve as a band?

I think for us as a band we just want to keep working as hard as we can to be lucky enough to play shows to as many people all over the country as possible whilst writing new songs and having a great time with our mates, obviously we’d love this to get to the point of being our full-time jobs but we’ll just take it as it comes for now.

Until we mere again,
