Questions on the Go | Forged In Black

This weekend heavy metal heroes Forged In Black will play two sets at the Bloodstock Open Air festival – both on the Serpent’s Lair V.I.P. Stage. On Saturday afternoon the band will perform an exclusive acoustic set, before letting rip on Sunday evening with a full, electric performance. To celebrate their return to the stage after a year of frustration the band have recorded their own take on Deep Purple‘s classic track, ‘Into The Fire‘. ‘Into The Fire’ appeared on Purple’s monumental In Rock album and provides the perfect showcase for Forged In Black vocalist Chris ‘Stoz’ Storozynski powerful pipes. Make sure you’re stage front on Sunday night as this explosive number may well be sneaking its way into the Forged In Black set.

Metal Digest got to ask them a few Questions on the Go

Welcome to Metal Digest!

Please describe the band in a single sentence.

The Forged In Black sound is pure, unashamed heavy metal, spun from steel threads drawn from across the metal tapestry.

What’s your latest project and what are you working on right now?

We have a new album in the pipeline so we’re currently in pre-production for that. We’ve also been preparing for the legendary Bloodstock festival where we’ll be playing two sets across the weekend: one acoustic and one electric. Transforming our sound for an acoustic set has been a fun challenge.

How do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?

We want to remind people of classic heavy metal whilst showing them that we can still conjure up the more hard-hitting vibes of the modern era.

Major influences: Who put you on this path?

Sabbath, Maiden, Priest, Dio – the classics have definitely informed our sound but for the heavier side to our music we’ve drawn inspiration from the likes of Pantera, and a variety of thrash.

If you had to flee the country as a band, where would you choose to live?

I think our sound would go down well in Germany. Also, the added bonus of living in the same country as the world famous Wacken festival would be pretty awesome.

What’s the ‘wow factor’ that makes YOU decide which songs to keep, record and release?

If there’s a melodic hook, some hard-hitting sections, and a degree of musical complexity then it’ll be sure to make the cut.

What’s the most hilarious band memory you can think of?

The recording process for our two EPs with Chris Tsangarides were some of the most fun times we’ve had as a band. There was a lot of laughter between us and the great man.

What would be the title of the band’s biography?

I’d have to say ‘Forging On’. It’s what we tend to say any time we embark on a new endeavor so I think that would suit our biography well.

What’s the next milestone you’d like to achieve as a band?

Continuing to write, record and tour but on a grander scale would be everything we’re after.
