Big City is what happens when a few Norwegians with similar musical backgrounds converge. Throw in “passion for melodic and nostalgic 80’s metal/hard rock” and some stellar musicianship, and you have a top-notch experience.
While a decidedly 80s vibe is going on here, the band is careful to only bring the good elements. But let’s be honest; all of the 80s were great, right?
‘Testify X’ is beautifully recorded, and each member is allowed to shine. Tons of great hooks and soaring melodies make pretty much every song sing-along ready. If you decide to add your voice to mix, bring your “A-game” as Jørgen Bergersen’s vocals are a cut above.
“The Rush” sets the stage with a lovely acoustic intro transitioning into powerful melodies. Some seriously impressive fretwork is on full display here and throughout the entire album.
“Dark Rider,” with its mandatory audience participation chorus and nifty slide guitar, will undoubtedly be a crowd favourite.
With the soundtrack ready ballad, “I Will Fall,” and a slightly Dokken-esque rocker (I’ll let you figure out which song,) there is something for everyone. You do not need to be a fan of the 80s to enjoy ‘Testify X’, but it kinda helps. If you are a fan of great Melodic Rock and musical prowess, give these guys a try.
