Questions On the Go | GROZA

German black metal band GROZA will release their 2nd full-length album, The Redemptive End, on August 6th with AOP Records. The new record follows their 2018 debut Unified In Void, and takes them into uncharted territory, blending their raw anger, devastating riffs and raging blast beats with subtle post-rock inspired rays of light.  If you’re into bands like Harakiri For The Sky, Mgla, Uada and Alcest then keep reading…

Please describe the band in a single sentence.
GROZA is a black metal band from Germany that plays emotion-driven, atmospheric and melodic music.

·         What’s your latest project and what are you working on right now?
Our latest project is our upcoming album “THE REDEMPTIVE END”, that is to be released on August 6th through AOP Records. We have been working on this album for over two years now and are very excited to finally being able to unleash it. More recently, we also released our first music video for the single “Elegance Of Irony”, which you can check out on AOP Records YouTube channel.

·         How do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?
To me, our music is always about conveying emotion, in the first place. It is very cathartic to me personally, but of course, this is very subjective and every person will connect our music to something their own, which is a beautiful thing.

·         Major influences: Who put you on this path?
Obviously, Mgla has been our main influence, especially for the first album. It is because of them, that I initially started this project in the first place, basically as a worship project (hence the name). But to name some other influences, that have been with me for a long time, I could name Dissection, UADA, Alcest, Harakiri For The Sky and Black Sabbath just to name a few off the top of my head. On the new album, you will also be able to hear some post-rock influences.

·         If you had to flee the country as a band, where would you choose to live?
Anywhere far off from people and close to nature.

·         What’s the ‘wow factor’ that makes YOU decide which songs to keep, record and release?
I mainly look for goosebumps. If a riff / song / melody doesn’t shake me up in some way or another, it probably isn’t worth to be incorporated into our music yet. Again, it’s always connected to emotion.

·         What’s the most hilarious band memory you can think of?

Quite a few, actually. Almost being arrested for relentlessly partying in an underground car park in Zagreb, Croatia was pretty hilarious.

·         What would be the title of the band’s biography?
We are just getting started, so I don’t really think in those terms.

·         What’s the next milestone you’d like to achieve as a band?
There are a few. But right now, releasing the new album and playing live shows again is the main priority for us. We also hope to get to play some places, that we haven’t been to for this album cycle.

Cheers,

P.G.
